Aesculus indica: An ethnomedicinal, phytochemical, and pharmacological review

Aesculus indica, commonly known as Indian horse chestnut, is an indigenous tree of the family Sapindaceae, distributed in Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. As ethnomedicine, its seeds are used to cure jaundice, chest diseases, stomach joint pain, roots for leucorrhea, bark fever anaemia. The phytochemicals class phenolic, triterpenoid, glycoside, saponin, fatty acid have been identified from their different parts various biological activities such antioxidant, anti-diabetic, hypocholesterolemic, hypoglycaemic, anti-nociceptive, anti-inflammatory, neuro-depressive, spasmolytic, immunomodulatory, anticancer, enzyme inhibitory, antimicrobial insecticidal reported, which reflected medicinal importance. However, most on extracts or fractions need more in-depth study. Therefore, further research required isolation, identification, characterization active with mechanism pharmacological action detailed toxicological evaluation. In this review, we aim provide all information regarding traditional uses, morphology, phytochemistry, pharmacology, toxicity A. indica address gaps; therefore, will a source researchers studies.
